Indonesia`s
national boxing coach from Cuba Ernesto Moreno plans to visit five
cities in the country to conduct coaching clinic this month.
The five cities to be visited by Moreno are Makassar, Bali, North Maluku, Medan and Palembang, head of national training of the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (PP Pertina) John Amanupunyo said when contacted over the report from here on Thursday.
"We have submitted the agenda deliberately so that local coaches in the cities could learn from him. Although the coaching clinic would last only a day in each city we hope provincial administrators would use the opportunity as much as possible," he said.
Makassar will be the first city to be visited by Moreno, and then he would continue to Bali and a week later to North Maluku, Medan and Palembang.
PP Pertina hoped the coaching clinic will give a positive impact especially to local coaches.
"We are thankful that Moreno is willing to share his knowledge with local coaches. This tour is also important because a series of new regulations will be discussed during the tour," he said.
Meanwhile the South Sulawesi Pertina General Secretary Abdi Amahoru welcomed Moreno`s planned visit to Makassar. He said preparations have been made including sending invitations to a number of coaches living in a number of areas in the province.
Previously he said PP Pertina planned to bring Moreno to Makassar in the fasting month, but because it is feared the event will not be optimum so it was decided to be postponed after Idul Fitri.
S Sulawesi Pertina would not only invite coaches but also a number of referees and match officials. The referees are prepared to conduct the Bantaeng XV Regional Games 2014, including the qualification round.
"We will invite about 25 coaches and referees. We should make use of this event well, moreover the opportunity of learning from a foreign coach is quite rare," he said.
The athlete development chairman of the S Sulawesi branch of National Sports Committee (KONI) Nukhrawi Nawir also positively welcomed the PP Pertina`s plan to bring the national coach to Makassar.
He hoped the agenda of increasing local coaches` quality would improve the quality of S Sulawesi athletes.
