BomberH-6K China |
People's
Liberation Army Air Force of China (PLAAF) recently received 15 bomber
Xian H-6K nuclear-capable, Jane's Defence Weekly reported.
Xian
H-6K, the latest version of the H-6 bomber who originally was a local
version built by China in the 1960s by Russian bombers Tupolev Tu-16. H-6K is a medium-sized aircraft designed for long-range attacks, an attack stand-off and air patrols over a wide area.
Unlike its predecessor, the H-6K capable of carrying cruise missiles under its wings. H-6K is also maneuver more agile than the H-6 and require less crew to operate it (H-6 4 crew). Reported H-6K has a combat radius of up to 3,500 km. The aircraft can carry weapons in internal weapons bay and on four pole (pylon) underwing.
China alone has nuclear-capable cruise missiles Changjian-10 (DH-10A) which has a range of 1,500-2,000 km, which would effectively increase the range of the bombers be 4,000-5,000 km. Analysts said that the DH-10A missiles could reach Okinawa (southwest Japan), Guam and Hawaii from the mainland even when combined with H-6K.
