Sophisticated radar Monitor Kalimantan waters

Indonesian archipelagic sea lanes (ALKI) is a strategic area and congested vessel traffic. Begin to ship in and out through ALKI I (Strait of Malacca), ALKI II (Makassar Strait), to waters of Papua to be projected as ALKI III.

For strategic interests, the Ministry of Defence with the Navy special devices placed in various strategic monitoring points. One of them in Cape Mangkalihat, the most eastern part of the island of Borneo.

The device is called IMSS (Integrated Maritime Surveillance System) or the Integrated Maritime Surveillance System. IMSS is an integrated maritime surveillance system of the Coastal Surveillance Station (CSS) or supervisor station on land with other control centers.

IMSS consists of an integrated network of sensors mounted on the ground and in the Indonesian war ships, communications equipment and a variety of computing devices to collect, transmit, and analyze various data maritime. In concrete terms, consisting of 18 stations IMSS beach supervisor (CSS), 11 ship-based radar, two regional command center, and two fleet command center in Jakarta and Surabaya.

"CSS integrated with Indonesian warships (KRI), Regional Command Center (RCC) or regional control center, and the Fleet Command Center (FCC) or the fleet control center," said Commander Lanal Sangatta, Marine Lt. Col. (E) Yudhi Bramantyo, accompanied by Commander Tanjung post Mangkalihat Navy, Marine Second Lieutenant (P) Machfudz Azhari.

IMSS is for vigilance functions in the maritime field, namely securing the territorial waters of Indonesia, especially those in congested areas for ships passing in and out of the Straits of Malacca and Makassar Strait, and the waters of Indonesia (through KRI).

IMSS is able to track and monitor the movement of the ship. After getting the position of the ship, officers immediately track and pursue the suspicious vessel. In addition to monitoring the movement of vessels, equipment IMSS can also monitor all communications that are in a ship is being in the watchlist.

For Tanjung Mangkalihat, IMSS began to function in 2010. Various tools are among other IMSS Radio Detection and Ranging (RADAR) which serves as a contact detection which is above sea level (the ships).

"There is also a Station Automatic Identification (AIS), which serves as a conduit of information about the ship's name and the name of the ship calls, IMO number, dimensions and type of vessel, vessel draft, vessel arrival and departure time, destination board, a position Latitude Longitude, halu ship, and speed boats, "said Danlanal.

The data on the ship always updated in a certain period on an international scale. So that ships that are not listed can be defined as an unidentified ship. People ship was still detected in the radar.

IMSS is equipped with a VHF radio that serves as a means of communication with the ships that pass in the vicinity of the station supervisor at the ground. Plus HF Radio that serves as a data backup to the RCC if VSAT communication can not be used, and also as a means of communication with the RCC or the passing ships around CSS

There is also a Day Camera (camera during the day) and the FLIR camera (night cameras) that function to take a picture (photograph) ships passing around CSS. "The camera can be moved directly from the RCC and the FCC without notifying CSS," said Machfudz.

Other supporting facilities at IMSS is Nobletec position that serves as a monitor ships passing around CSS and as a means of communication with the RCC and the FCC via text message application. "The source of power comes from the CSS system two diesel generators 15 Kwh," he said.

IMSS is one of the cutting-edge military technology tools. Many countries in the world are using it as one of the country's defense and security systems.

Indonesia currently has 20 pieces Coastal Surveillance System (CSS). 10 pieces are in the Straits of Malacca and 10 pieces are in the Makassar Strait. 11 KRI also equipped IMSS. Three warships under Indonesian Fleet Command West Region, and eight warships under the command of the Eastern Fleet RI.

Indonesia also has two Regional Command Center, the RCC RCC Batam and Manado, two Fleet Command Center, which the FCC FCC Jakarta and Surabaya, as well as the Headquarters (HQ), which Cilangkap HQ.

Security of East Kalimantan Edge Leaves Many Stories

Secure the waters at the eastern end of the island of Borneo also leaves many stories. Machfudz said, they are still fighting for the task of the state to the maximum in all the constraints.

"The most noticeably is the access to the site is very difficult. Having speedboat from Sangkulirang towards Manubar, must be followed by a boat trip to Cape Mangkalihat people for a few hours," he said.

Currently Mako Lanal Sengata commissioned four Navy personnel on Pos Tanjung Mangkalihat. They have apples in Mako Lanal within two months. In this condition, Machfudz say they strive to carry out their duties well.

What is interesting, because there is no BTS tower, they can only communicate with short messages. "To find the signal, we have seven kilometer bike ride. Was no signal dropouts. Communication with Mako Lanal so much more through SMS. We checked every other day," he said.

Feeling alone constraints experienced, Machfudz convey some basic needs which inhabited the area around the 300 families. "That was the main road. During this time we have by sea or rotate to Berau Gulf through Solomon. Way through to Manubar very necessary," he said.

In addition, the power supply is still relying on generators. Even if there are generators, still rely on diesel supply from Sulawesi. "People are a lot depends on the supply of Sulawesi. Neither food nor fuel," he said.

One solution to overcome the power problem is with the use of a solar cell or solar power plants. This needs to be pursued seriously. "In the region there is no dock also. Trip must be connected with a small boat up to the shore," he said.

As military personnel who also plays as a society, Machfudz hopes that stretching can be transmitted proportionally development in the region. So as to be a "release thirst" to citizens separated by hundreds of miles of the capital district.
