Executive Secretary of Commission for the Laity, Indonesian Bishop
Conference, Father Suprapto said lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
had the same rights as human beings before God. However, same-sex
marriage was another thing.
"No religion permits same-sex marriage. We hope gay and lesbian to respect this principle," Suprapto said.
Unlike in European culture, Indonesian culture doesn't allow any
homosexual behavior to be displayed in public space. However, Suprapto
said the presence of gays and lesbians as part of Indonesian society
needed to be recognized. He believes that they have the rights to be
admitted by government and National Commission on Human Rights.
Referring their sexual behavior disorder, Suprapto said that was
personal matter. Before God, he said, they have the same rights and
dignity as His creatures.
