Pakistani politician and former cricket star Imran Kahn has blamed the
killing of a top member of his political party on a rival party, as
voters in Karachi re-vote a parliamentary election originally held last
week.
Kahn, leader of Pakistan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, or PTI, blamed Saturday's slaying of Zahra Shahid Hussain on the rival Muttahida Qaumi Movement party, or MQM.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain, who lives in exile in London, has condemned Hussain's killing. The two Hussains are not related.
Police say she was approached by at least two unknown gunmen outside her home in Karachi. She died on the way to the hospital after being shot twice in the head. A spokesman for her party called the killing an act of terrorism.
Zahra Hussain was a senior vice president of PTI, which finished third in last week's parliamentary election and accused MQM of vote-rigging. Sunday's re-vote - held under tight security - is in response to those claims.
