SBY meets, Papua New Guinea Electricity Request

The Government will cooperate in the exploration of the borders with three neighboring countries, such as Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and Vietnam. One of the cooperation is to be woven in the energy sector. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik said cooperation in the energy sector with Papua New Guinea will be discussed further in the Prime Minister's state visit to Indonesia in the country June 17, 2013.

"Potential at the border is good, both in their region and us. In their territory (Papua New Guinea) has no investment from Exxon at U.S. $ 17 billion and is almost in production," Jero said at the State Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday, June 11, 2013.

Then, Jero was revealed, Papua New Guinea wants to get electricity from Indonesia. "We count together. They want to invest in Indonesia and majority power is sent to it," he said.

Meanwhile, Jero added, on the western side of the border, Indonesia will start cooperation with ConocoPhillips.

"There has been no realization of investments, new exploration. We want to turn this partnership because we have a shared belief that the border there is a lot of oil and gas," he said.
