U.S. Secretary of
Defense Chuck Hagel has
assured Israel that the U.S. government is committed to preserving Israel's military forces in the Middle
East. The comments follow a meeting with Israeli
Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon
said on Monday, on the second day of a
weeklong trip to the Middle East.
Hagel said
the Obama administration "is
committed to providing whatever support is
necessary to maintain
Israel's military superiority over any state or
coalition of states'', as reported by the VOA website.
Earlier in the flight
from America to Israel, the U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said vital
American weapons treaty
with Israel is very clear signals to
Iran that military
activity is still an option to prevent Tehran from continuing
the manufacture or use of nuclear weapons. Hagel's trip focused on
U.S. arms sales to Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, as well as talks on Iran and
Syria.
