Indonesian Foreign Minister, Marty Natalegawa said that Indonesian
government protested on the opening of Free West Papua representative
office in Oxford last week. He assessed these condition very
incompatibled with spirit of friendship between both countries.
"I expected that British government could truly understand how we
feel very piqued and didn't accept this condition," Natalegawa said on
Wednesday. British Ambassador to Indonesia, Mark Canning had declared
that the existence of Papuan office in Oxford didn't reflect British
government. However, Indonesia dismayed of the attitude of local
government officials in Oxford.
Coordinator of Papuan Caucus, Paskalis Kossay said that Papuan office
in Oxford had a hint of separatism, so it should have been closed.
"Although British government doesn't support the movement, the fact is a
Papuan office was opened in British authority region," he said then
added that the latest incident could harm bilateral relations between
two countries.
