Jamestown colony in Virginia ever did cannibalism to survive in a very bad winter last in 1609. "They take a 14-year-old girl," the report Smithsonian Institution United States, Wednesday (1/5).
This is the first finding is based on studies of cannibalism in Jamestown. Jamestown is the oldest inhabited city of the British colonies during migration to America.
Recent excavations in the historical site shows not only dogs, cats, and horses are eaten by people, during the 'hunger period' in winter at that time. Researchers also found the remains of a girl they called 'Jane'.
"It remains to be seen whether a host Jane child or servant," said Smithsonian forensic anthropologist Douglas Owsley.
Jane Owsley after analyzing bones found a private nonprofit group called Preservation Virginia. Last molars Jane has not yet appeared. This indicates about 14-year-old Jane. Too much nitrogen found in the bones indicate Jane is a British with high meat intake.
Not yet known whether Jane was killed or died naturally. Smithsonian Party said there was no sign of murder in Jane. After his death, while starving Jamestown colony, the body of Jane cut. "Jane chosen because all the members of his family have menginggal, no one was buried," said Owsley end.
