Iraqis gather at the scene of a bomb attack in the commercial area of Karradah in Baghdad, Iraq, May 30, 2013. |
Several early morning bomb explosions across Iraq Thursday killed at
least eight people and wounded dozens more, in the latest instance of
sectarian violence to hit the country.
Officials say a car bomb in northeast Baghdad killed four people, while another bombing at a market in the central part of the capital killed at least two and wounded many more.
Security officials also say at least two policemen were killed by a suicide car bomb attack in the northern city of Mosul.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, which occurred in both Sunni and Shi'ite neighborhoods.
The violence comes a day after at least 26 people died across Iraq, as tensions between Sunnis and Shi'ites continues.
Violence has killed hundreds in Iraq this month, raising fears in the United Nations that the country may be slipping towards civil war.
Iraq's Sunni minority is accusing the Shi'ite-led government of marginalizing them, ignoring their concerns, and targeting Sunnis for arrest.
