Confidential whistleblower U.S. Internet Surveillance Will Be Tried in Hong Kong?


Chief Executive of Hong Kong C.Y. Leung said Saturday that the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will handle the case of Edward Snowden whistleblower in accordance with Hong Kong law and procedure.
'' The Hong Kong government will follow up on every events related to confidentiality or rights of another person or institution who violated in Hong Kong,'' Leung said in a statement, according to Xinhua on Saturday night.
Snowden - a defense contractor that was 29 years old, fled to Hong Kong on May 20 and believed to be hiding in one place in this city. He previously revealed two-surveillance program secret U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), the U.S. telephone records and other data collection activities Internet.
In Hong Kong, he gave classified documents Guardian which has led to a series of revelations about the control of the United States. Snowden also told the South China Morning Post, based in Hong Kong, the U.S. government has been hacked computers in Hong Kong and in Mainland China since 2009.
Snowden believes there have been more than 61,000 hacking NSA operations globally, and hundreds of targets located in Hong Kong and in Mainland China.
On Saturday, hundreds of people held a public meeting in Hong Kong to support Snowden. Protesters marched from Chater Garden to the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong, before proceeded to the headquarters of the Government of Hong Kong.
Snowden, a former CIA employee, said she would settle in Hong Kong in order to fight any attempt to extradite him to the United States.
