Chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, yesterday quipped Hezbollah as a party because the devil trying to spread discord among the Muslims.

Al Arabiya television reported on Monday (10/6), Qaradawi regretted previous defense against Hezbollah and Iran when the majority of scholars, mainly in Saudi Arabia, have voiced their doubts over Hezbollah plans in the Middle East region.

"When Hezbollah war against Israel, I defend it. I stood up against the leading cleric in Saudi Arabia, which has warned against Hezbollah fighters," said Qaradawi.

"They warned us against the plan Hezbollah in sowing discord. They warned us against their ideology and intentions. But I stand up and defend them (Hezbollah)," he said.

He described Hezbollah, which in Arabic means Party of God, as a party of demons who seek to sow discord in the Muslim lands.

"Those who fought against the Syrians and calling themselves Hezbollah (Party of God) is the party of the devil," said Qaradawi.

He declared that Saudi clerics are more mature and have more knowledge about Hezbollah and Iran than he.

"Those, who I defended earlier, had gone and killed their brothers in Syria. We think that they are our brothers, but apparently they did not," said Qaradawi.
