Yusuf Qaradawi calls for jihad against Hezbollah and Assad

Famous and influential Sunni cleric Qatari Yusuf al-Qaradawi yesterday called for jihad in Syria against the Shiite group Hezbollah. He stated that Hezbollah has sent troops to Syria to be fought.

"Every Muslim should be trained to fight and always ready to do that," said Qaradawi supports the rebels in Syria protests in the capital Doha Friday, as reported by Al Arabiya television on Saturday (2/6).

"Iran continues to support the Assad regime by sending weapons and soldiers, so why are we silent?" she said. Qaradawi also called Hezbollah (in Arabic means Party of God) as the Party of Satan.

Hezbollah has been the ally of Bechar al-Assad regime in Syria and has been openly at war with the rebels. Hezbollah also has many years of war against Israel, the main enemy of Iran and Syria.

"The leader of the Party of Satan has been fighting the Sunnis. Now we know what Iran wants. They want to continue to slaughter the Sunnis," said Qaradawi.

"How could a hundred million Shia (worldwide) beat 1.7 billion Sunni? Was due to weak Sunnis," he said.

Qaradawi feel sorry for the previous support of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah after he gained popularity in the war against Israel in 2006.

But she said the war against Hezbollah does not mean the fight against all Shiites.
