Governor of Banten province to be questioned by KPK

The Governor of Banten Province in West Java, Ratu Atut Chosiyah, will be questioned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in connection with her younger brother`s involvement in a bribery case.

"We hope the questioning can be conducted in the near future," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said on Friday.

Chosiyah`s younger brother, Tubagus Chaery Wardana alias Wawan has been named a suspect by the KPK for having allegedly bribed Constitutional Court chief Akil Mochtar in connection with the Labak district head`s election dispute.

Wardana is also the husband of current mayor of the city of South Tangerang in Banten.

Meanwhile, Governor Chosiyah has been banned from traveling abroad, due to her impending questioning by the KPK.

"We need witnesses with regards to a bribery case implicating Akil Mochtar that involves her (Governor Chosiyah) brother," Budi pointed out.

He added that KPK was working hard to handle the case properly and hoped "the case can be settled fast."
