Benfica signing the 19-year-old, Lazar Markovic, from Partizan Belgrade with a five-year contract. The Portuguese club have reached an agreement with the Serbian national team winger who is also being targeted by Premier League club, Chelsea, are.
"Markovic signed a five-year contract with Benfica," said a statement by Benfica.
The statement also accompanied by an interview with the young players of Serbia as well as a photograph of her smiling while wearing a costume Benfica. Portuguese club did not provide details on the transfer value.
"Benfica played attacking football which is closely aligned with my character," said Markovic, who is known for his technical ability and agility to make the distance with his opponent.
"I come from a winning team and I am fit to play in this team, because I always had a goal and win," he added.
Markovic said wanted the title with the Lisbon club, who despite playing impressive but failed to win anything this season despite reaching the final of the domestic cup and the Europa League final. "I knew we were going to play in the Champions League so I'm very motivated," said Markovic.
Markovic admitted that he had sought the advice of fellow countryman Nemanja Matic, who played one season at Benfica. "He (Matic) told me that Benfica is a very well organized club with a lot of support," he said.
